Photo Album - The
Year 2001 (New York City 2001 Page 1) |
| In September of 2001, a group of
us high-tailed it to Manhattan to do it up. We had a blast hangin'
out and attending all the events. As much fun as that trip was
though, it is obviously remembered for the fact that we were there on
Sept. 11th. I'm trying to think of things to write, describing our
trip. But nothing really is able to come out. No matter what,
the only thing I can think about when referencing that trip is what
happened on that day. Alan Jackson says it best when he sings,
"Where were you when the world stopped turning..." Well,
this is where we were. Below are pictures leading up to that
historic and very much tragic day... |

The Michael Jackson concert was so badass!
Y'all can say what y'all want, but Michael Jackson is an awesome performer
and well worth the trip to NYC! |
There were a ton of singers there that performed his
songs, along with their own to celebrate his career. The first show
was on Friday, September 7th at ... |
...the Garden. It was the first time since 1984
that MJ performed with his brothers as the Jackson 5. I can't tell
y'all how electric it felt to be in that arena on that... |
...day. On Friday, I was super-ass close and saw
all the action. I was sitting right behind Susan Sarandon, her
daughter, and O-Town. MJ is one of a very few ... |
...who are considered a celebrity even among other
celebrities. Here, *NSYNC joined The Jacksons on... |
...stage to sing "Dancin' Machine". Of
course peeps now considers Justin T. to be MJ's heir apparent! |
|

The Jacksons finished their set, and then
bid adeu to younger brother MJ as he then started his solo set. |

w/Slash, MJ performs "Black or White".
Slash also played "Beat It" 'cause Eddie Van Halen wasn't there. |
|

Britney Spears came out and performed with
him on "The Way You Make Me Feel". She was the chick ... |

... that he is chasing after, like in the video.
This concert aired on CBS during November Sweeps in '01. |
|
Britney, *NSYNC, Usher, Whitney, and all the others were
all great to see. But Michael is at his best when it is just him up
there on stage dancin' like no other. He is so smooth in the way he
moves. Justin, Usher, they're good. But they got nothin' on Michael
Jackson. |
By far, the highlight of the night was when he donned
the hat and glove for "Billie Jean". Make fun if you want,
but to me that was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. IMO,
the man is a musical genius. Seeing him moonwalk live, it was
totally priceless! |
After the concert ended, Erin had a party at her place
which was totally fun, so we all went and hammered... |
...the night away. Her friends found us
"Texas folk" pretty entertaining. They liked the accents
we have? |
Helen & Hunter took this nice shot in Times Square.
New York looks great at night when all lit up. |
They took this picture outside the Harley place. I
guess Hunter needed his fix of men in leather chaps! |
We made a quick stop at Radio City Music Hall before
heading to Times Square that morning. We were heading to ESPN Zone
to watch the UT game. |
We watched the UT-UNC game with the NYC Texas Exes.
One sad thought, the guy directly over my right shoulder died at
work at the WTC just 3 days later. |
We took the No. 7 to Flushing/Queens on that Sun. .. |
..afternoon headin' to the USTA Nat. Tennis Center. |
