Hey y'all.  I know, it's been a while.  The last week has been pretty busy.  I had tons to do last week which made time very scarce.  Things have now eased up a bit, which is cool.  The weekend was pretty crazy too.  I totally knew we were going to kick the crap out of Tech, Top 10 ranking or not.  They're still Tech!  Sorry, but I just knew it wasn't going to be close.  And of course I was right.  I also found out something that was pretty crazy as well.  Life is nuts sometimes.  There are times when you just gotta sit back and laugh, even when things aren't very funny.  I am starting to really appreciate time when I get to relax and just digest things, kinda like right now.  Reflection is bliss.  Anyway, that's all for now.  Talk to y'all later.  -- Michael

Yes, I am still pissed at that USC/Notre Dame game.  I totally don't even want to talk about it.  Let's just say, at this point, I now want USC to win out so Texas can kick the shit out of those bastards in the Rose Bowl.  That's right, Texas will beat the crap out of the Trojans in the National Championship.  Moving on ...

My weekend was okay.  We killed Colorado which was fun.  The Cowboys won, as did the Astros.  I pretty much tried to get caught up on things.  I really didn't do anything special.  This week is going to be long.  I'm not really looking forward to it.  And since I don't have much else to write, I'll end this here.  Hope everyone has a good week.  Talk to y'all later.  -- Michael

10/13/05 (01:00 AM) -- My Epiphany  [Music: "Epiphany" by Staind  I  Mood: Productive]

Happy 4th Anniversary Molly Cox & Husband!

So I got a lot of letters from people asking about the "moment of clarity" I described the other day.  Lol, I wasn't quite sure why that prompted so many inquires.  Since it did though, I'll further explain as best I can ...

After Texas beat OU on Saturday, obviously it was time to celebrate that night.  The night got off to a late start for a number of reasons.  When it did though, two people were still reeling from Friday night, and another was just plain tired, all of which decided not to venture out.  So it ended up just being two of us.  There was a lot to do that night, but since we got off to a late start, the choices were then slightly limited.  Anyway, long story short, we ended up in downtown Dallas at the Texas Exes function only to find out that it was already packed in.  So we decided just to hang at another place a few bars down.  We sat in the outdoor patio area in the front of the bar that faces the main strip.  It was cool to just relax, hang out, down a few choice beverages, people watch, etc.  There were a lot of crazy people out that night.  It was cool though, it felt so good to have won earlier in the day.  Everyone had on their Burnt Orange with pride.

At one point, she went to the restroom and I stayed outside at our table outside.  That's when something just hit me, of which I can't explain.  I was sitting there and the weather was great, slightly chilly but not too cold.  It was just enough to where you needed something extra on, but not so much that you were freezing without that something extra.  The street was closed off to traffic and people were walking all through it, most of which were Texas fans.  People of all different kinds were walking to and from each direction.  Across the street from me was a bar that had a band doing a great over of Willie Nelson's "Whisky River".  On the roof of that bar there were people dancing to the music.  Towering behind that bar, and in direct view of my eyeshot was the Bank of America building.  It's the building with green light lining all the sides, the same building that housed the fictional Ewing Oil in the TV show Dallas.  The building is easily the tallest and most recognizable of the sprawling Dallas skyline.  It was a very clear night with no haze.  The stars were bright, and I surely was deep in the heart of Texas.  Well, deep in the heart of metropolitan Texas at least.

It was at that moment when something just came over me.  For some reason I was taken in by the moment.  I closed my eyes, tilted my head back and just sniffed the night air.  I took in a good deep breath, and then opened my eyes and let it out while looking up at the stars.  It was like the world was still moving, but in my little circle, things had stopped and allowed me to take a step back and observe all that was going on around me.  It was like I was completely content.  It's like I was able to slow reality for a bit, and think about how all things lead me to that moment in time.  It sounds weird, I know.  But that's how it felt.  It was like everything life had thrown my way, it all lead me to that chair, with that person, in that setting, on that day.

In my opinion, it was an epiphany of sorts.  It was like I was able to release all things negative, and only keep in the positive.  It was like I was able to, for that specific moment at least, just stop and appreciate life.  I didn't have a care in the world.  The only things that mattered were being in a nice setting, being in good company, having good conversation, and just enjoying life for what it is worth.  I was at peace, and it felt great.

When she returned from the restroom, I didn't say anything about what I had just experienced.  I just turned to her and smiled to greet her as she sat back down at the table.  We continued on with our night and had fun in the process.  I'm not quite sure why such a moment happened that night.  I guess a number of things could have contributed to it.  Things we were talking about that night, things currently going on right now, decisions I am currently pondering, things that have happened in the past during this time of year ... perhaps a combination of those as well as other things could have assisted in my moment of clarity.  Whatever the ingredients were though, I was very grateful because I hadn't felt at peace like that in a long time.  Just thinking and writing about it puts me at peace again.  It takes me back to that moment all over again.  That was my moment of clarity.  That was my epiphany in the truest definition of the word; a comprehension or perception of reality by means of a sudden intuitive realization.  That was when life slowed for a moment and allowed me to achieve a better sense of clarity as to what it all should mean.

Thanks for the questions about it.  Writing about it made me appreciate it all over again.  -- Michael

10/11/05 (01:00 AM) -- #2 Texas 45 - OU (sucks) 12!  [Music: "Smooth" by Santana feat. Rob Thomas  I  Mood: Tired]

Happy Birthday Shareen (Larmond) Edwards!

The last few days have zoomed.  Boy was it a great weekend though!  Texas puts a beat down on OU!  The Astros win a classic against the Braves.  The Cowboys throw it down on the Eagles.  I honestly can't remember a better sports weekend!  OU weekend 2005 is now done and it was a good one.  It had a cringe moment or two, but it was MUCH better than last year, which totally blew.  Recapping ...

After I left campus on Thursday, I watched the Astros lose (damnit) at Fox & Hound on 4th St. with Larry & Hunter.  When the game was over I left to The Big D for OU weekend.  It was easier to leave that night rather than deal with the traffic on I-35 on Friday.  I didn't get to Dallas until late, but it was cool because I was talking to friends and bumpin' music the whole way up.  When I finally got to Dallas, it was way late, but that didn't restrict from continuing the night and having fun.  Sleep didn't beckon until very late ...

...which made Friday morning kinda though, but it was cool.  I had an errand to run in the morning, talked to Gabe and wished him a "happy birthday", and then relaxed until the night's festivities.  First it was to the Texas Exes stuff, then tried to hang out with friends, then went to meet other friends, and then on to another friend's place to hang out with the group for the night.  It turned out to be a lot of fun.  We stayed at the location until close, and then stole a cab from someone to go home.  Well, technically, I think we stole the cab.  But the other dude started mouthing off to the cabbie, and so the cabbie decided to get out and start yelling back.  They totally almost got into a fight which was pretty funny.  A foreign cabbie vs. a drunk Sooner ... it was funny.  Needless to say when that was going on, I shoveled everyone into the cab and by that point the cabbie was so pissed at the original person that he gave us the ride instead.  He then proceeded to risk all of our lives by driving as hazardous as possible.  I thought the point of a cab was to get home safe?  Nope, not in that case at least.  We made it back to my friend's place in one piece so that was cool.  We then hung out there and had more fun until way late.  Friday (and early Saturday) was a blast.  Great times.  There are rumors that someone might have fallen on their ass (which might have been funny as hell), another person could have chose a pole to cozy up to, someone else perhaps was reaganing her/his drinks rather than downing them, and also it might have been the case that someone else perhaps killed the floor when Michael Jackson came on.  Those are all just rumors though, which can be neither confirmed nor denied.  Suffice it to say, it was an OU weekend Friday night at it's best.

The game was awesome.  We snapped the streak!  We kicked their ass!  45-12 ... take that Sooner bitches!  Vince Young looked great, as did Jamaal Charles and our defense.  And boy did Rhett Bomar suck ass.  I know he is just a freshman, but he totally sucks.  If he is the quarterback of the future for OU, they're in trouble.  When the game was over there was rest, then dinner, and then out again to celebrate.  We meant to hit the Exes deal again, but didn't get there in time.  So we hung out and people watched for a little while which is always fun.

Something interesting also happened that night.  I was there at an outdoor patio area of a bar/restaurant with good company.  We were talking and having a good time, laughing at all the drunk people making fools of themselves.  We listened to the good live music that was playing.  At one point, I just looked up and took in the nice chilly air and saw the big green light-trimmed Bank of America building that is prominent in the Dallas skyline, the same building that was Ewing Oil in the TV show Dallas.  I don't know, it was just a good feeling.  It was like at that moment, I was content.  I can't explain it, but it was just fun.  I have no idea why a moment like that sticks out so much; it was like I was able to stop, take a step back, and allow life to breath into me.  It was like I was able to look at all that life had thrown my way to that point, and see how it all brought me to that point in time.  As Jules from Pulp Fiction would say, it was a "moment of clarity".  I have no idea why that happened, of all times during OU weekend, but it was a nice feeling.  It brought a smile to my face.

After we hung out there, we then did the late night food thing before heading home to hang out more.  Like Thursday and Friday, it was another late night, but probably the most fun in terms of genuine enjoyment.  After that, sleep called and Saturday night/Sunday morning was done.  I didn't get to make to the annual OU weekend party some friends always throw, but I still had a great time nonetheless.

Of course it's been a game of catch up since then.  I was SO close to getting that Inbox of e-mails done ... but now I am WAY backed up again.  I'll work on that this week though.  Hopefully I'll make some headway soon.  Until then though, thanks to those who keep in touch and I'll get back to y'all as soon as I can.  OU weekend was tons of fun.  To those involved, thanks for making this one a good one.  -- Michael

10/06/05 (02:00 AM) -- The Streak Ends This Saturday!  [Music: "Lights" by Journey  I  Mood: Tired]

I don't think I'll have time to write tomorrow or Saturday, so my annual TX/OU analysis and pick are coming a day early this year.  This year's game really boils down to one major factor ... Quarterback.  The defenses will both play tough.  The offenses will click when they need to.  The difference this year, and like most of the previous years, will come down to who is behind the center, and more specifically who has more maturity at that position.  For the first time in a while, Texas finally has the edge.

Rhett Bomar is improving, but he isn't in the same league as this year's Vince Young.  OU has killed us because they believed they could win, while we hoped we could.  The 2005 Vince Young, with Rose Bowl and Ohio State victories in his belt, now knows he can win, and that will transcend to the rest of the team.  The loss of 2004 QB Jason White is too big for OU to overcome.  It will be a close game.  But this year, not even shitty play calling by Greg Davis and Mack Brown will hold us down.  Vince Young will find a way to win and will further cement his legacy in the process.  The streak ends this Saturday.  With a 31-21 Texas win, look for Young to be a VERY close second to Matt Leinhart in the Heisman race by weekend's end.  -- Michael

10/03/05 (01:00 AM) -- E-mails, E-mails, E-mails  [Music: "Separate Ways" by Journey  I  Mood: Tired]

Hey y'all.  Thanks to everyone who got in touch with the birthday wishes.  They are appreciated.  The weekend, Thursday included, was a lot of fun.  I'm glad Texas won too.  I was a little nervous about the game, just because Mizzou can sometimes be tough, but we won it pretty well.  Annnnd now on to TX/OU Week!!!  Dude, I can't wait for this coming weekend.  All signs point to us taking care of the Sooners pretty easily.  I am still nervous though.  I guess I won't be cool until the final whistle.  I am feeling confident though.  This is our year.  We're runnin' the table damnit ... book it!

Even though it's OU week, the week itself will be long which is something I am not looking forward to.  This is also just a tough time of the year for a few reasons.  In any event, I hope things are going well with everyone.  I am trying to work on the Inbox when I can, hence me on the computer right now.  I do see the light at the end of the tunnel though!  At some point I am going to be completely 100% caught up with e-mails and responses and stuff.  Then again, the more I write on this, the more time I am not spending on the Inbox.  In light of that, it's time to finish a few more quick ones.  Talk to y'all later.  Bye y'all!  -- Michael
