Frequently Asked Questions

I get a lot of questions from people, so I thought I'd create an area where I answer them.  The Message Board is an open discussion amongst everyone.  This is more of me responding to what's bein' asked.  Enjoy!

Re:  The Website

The Origin:
Q.  When did you create the site?

A.  The site went live on Nov. 9th, 2002.  Version 2.0 was unveiled on Sept. 8th, 2004.

Q.  How did you come up with the idea for the site?
A.  I received one of Larry Olivarez' mass e-mails on Nov. 6th, 2002.  In the "To:" list, I noticed Thomas Hogan's e-mail address domain had his website in it, so I checked it out.  That prompted me to buy the rights to my domain name (michaelcarrizales.com).  I started building and three days later it went live.

Classmates:
Q.  This was such a great idea.  How and when did you come up with it?
A.
Hunter Thompson and I thought it up in April 2003.  We asked our close friends to post their current information, thus making it easier to keep in touch.  From there, it grew to include other classes and schools.

Q.  How do I list my information in the Classmates section and/or update it?
A.
Go to the Classmates section.  Then click on the ...Submit Your Information link.  Then just fill it out!

Q.  I want to be on the site, but I don't know what to write?  I think mine will look dumb.
A.
It honestly doesn't matter what you write.  You can write your whole post high school life story, or simply "e-mail me".  The important thing is to have yourself listed so others can keep in touch.

Q.  Are you going to start charging us for the Classmates thing?
A.
Even though I do have costs, the answer is 'no'.  However, y'all can buy me a drink if you like!  LOL!

Other:
Q.  Who did you get to build your site and how much did it cost?
A.
I built and maintain the website myself.  Everything you see was coded by me from scratch.

Q.  How do I make posts on the Message Board?
A.
Instructions for the Message Board can be found in this Thread.  It explains everything in detail.

Q.  What is the significance of the flags at the top in the banner?
A.
I was born, raised, and reside in The Great State of Texas, United States.  My family comes from Spain and France, thus making up the hispanic and white sides of me.  I have a bit of German also, but just a bit.

Q.  I have a few pictures (or information) that might be good for the site.  Do you want them?
A.
E-mail me the pictures and/or info and I'll post them.  You can also hand them to me and I'll scan them.

Q.  What new things can we expect from your site on the future?
A.
I'm currently working on a stats page for the Classmates section.  Other things should come soon also.

Q.  How come you don't use any flash or animation stuff on the site?
A.
I feel my site would be more efficient and useful if it focuses more on what it has to offer in terms of information, rather than if it uses animation and/or flash.  I personally don't like all the flash stuff.

Re:  People

Q.  How is your family doing?
A.
My family is doing fine.  My parents are well, as are both my sisters.  All of them live in The C.C..

Q.  Do you keep in touch with all the people on your site?
A.
I don't know if "keep in touch" would be the most appropriate phrase.  Rather, I "know how to get in touch" with all the people on the site would probably be more accurate.  I do my best though to keep tabs with y'all.

Re:  Me

Q.  Are you still competing?
A.
No.  I "officially" retired from competition last year.  Injuries and health took their toll.

Q.  How is your body?  Are you still training?
A.
My back is good, though it does get sore on me.  The shoulder is okay too.  My ankles are crapped out, though.  I thought about training again, just for myself though...not in preparation to compete.  I am giving my body a little more time, and then I will probably do so.  Until then, I will try to stay as active as possible.

Q.  How much did/do you lift?  What was training like and how hard is it?
A.
Bench: 340 lbs weighing 162 1/3 lbs.  Squat: 545 lbs weighing 164 1/2 lbs.  I've put up a bit more during practice, but that doesn't count.  Training is more mental than anything else, requiring a lot of discipline to stay on plan and diet.  Weight training/lifting focuses more on muscle growth and development.  Gymnastics specific is more about lean muscle and flexibility.  My body looks completely different when in each program.

Q.  I think I saw you recently, but you looked different?  Is your hair long and did you have a beard?
A.
Yes, it is longer right now.  The beard/facial hair comes and goes.  I guess it is "a guy thing".

Q.  Why do you sometimes write words in slang or contracted?
A.
Because that's the way I talk.  I want y'all to read my words as if I were sayin' them to you.
