Kevin
Thomas Weber (1977 - 1998)
"Kevin Thomas Weber, age 21, passed
away on Thursday, June 18, 1998 in a Corpus Christi hospital due to
complications after heart surgery.
He is survived by his parents, Tom and
Cynthia (Garza) Weber; two sisters, Melanie (17) and Alyson (14); paternal
great-grandmother, Sophie Weber of Corpus Christi; paternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Peter P. Weber, Sr. of Corpus Christi; maternal grandparents.
Eddie and Grace Garza of Mission, Texas. He is survived by uncles
and aunts; Peter and Sonja Weber of Corpus Christi; Gloria (Garza) and
Jose Angel Gutierrez of Dallas, Linda (Garza) Alaniz of San Antonio,
Robert and Melinda Garza of San Antonio, Iris (Garza) and Moises Iglesias
of Mission, Richard and Maggie Garza, also from Mission, Mary (Garza) and
Ray Flores of Mission, and Christine Garza of Austin. He is also survived
by numerous cousins and other relatives.
Kevin was a junior attending both Del Mar
and Texas A&M Corpus Christi majoring in Political Science. He
had been an active member of the Army ROTC and participated in Rangers and
Color Guard. Most recently, Kevin received the Sophomore Class
Superior Cadet Award, the highest award from the Department of the Army
and the Veterans of World Wars Award. His rank was Cadet Staff Sergeant.
In addition, as an exemplary public speaking model, Kevin's persuasive
speech was included in the Del Mar publication Experiences in Public
Speaking.
Kevin was a 1995 graduate of Mary Carroll
High School. He served four years in the Naval Junior ROTC program
and served as the Commanding Officer his senior year. He led his
unit to the regional, area and national NJROTC Championships. He
also placed second in the National Armed Individual Drill Routine
Competition. He was recipient of the Sons of the American Revolution
medal and the Navy Highest Award to NJROTC Cadet, the Meritorious
Achievement Ribbon for exemplifying exceptional leadership skill.
Also, Kevin served as a member of the Carroll Academic Decathlon Team his
senior year and placed first in speech and second in interview at the
Region III Texas Academic Decathlon meet.
His kindness and warm smile will be greatly
missed by all of us whose lives he touched. The arrangements are
being handled by Seaside Funeral Home, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi,
Texas. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 21, 1998 from 5:00
p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary scheduled for Monday, June 22, 1998 at
7:00 p.m. at St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church, 3513 Cimarron Road.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, June
23, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church with
Father Tom McGettrick, Pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow
at Seaside Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be cousins: David
Iglesias and Nathaniel Garza; friends, Luis Carrera, Elias Hinojosa, Terry
Hornaday, and Paul Florez. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Josh
Anderson, Charlie Bryan, Joey Guerrero, Ryan Anderson, Mike Trejo, Joey
Salas, Mike Ramsey, Capt. B.B. Traweek, USN (Ret), Cadets Andrew Pike,
Sherman Mertough, Rudy Cuellar, Jessica Solis, Belinda Luis, Yvette
Carrion, Garret Reynard, Salvador Zuniga, and Capt. Robert Straiton."
